Sunday Sketches

Happy Sunday Sketches Everyone!

This is a mixed media piece I did today - I started with colored pencils and then, being inspired by so many of you that mix different media, I added acrylic paint to the hair. This is my first time with Acrylics with any success - I like her. Then I mounted the finished piece on red paper.

I used a picture of myself as inspiration, but I wouldn't call this a self-portrait.

Best of all, I had FUN, which of course, is the whole point!

Julia, her hair is gorgeous, I love the flowing broad strokes! In fact the whole piece is gorgeous - I just love all those bright vibrant colors and you did an awesome job with her face. Faces and anything human for that matter are SO hard to draw! Glad you threw caution to the wind and did some mixed media, it did indeed look like you had a blast! Acylics are great paints to experiment with 'cause they dry so fast, if you don't like what you did, just paint right over it!

Thanks so much for your kind and encouraging comments on my post, it means a lot.

Happy Easter and SS!

Hi Julia!

Beautiful sketch! I love her eyes, mouth and hair, and the colour!

Thanks for your comment on my blog Julia, I love the zen doodles too and it is a very zen feeling doodling them. I saw someone do one as part of CED2010 and tried one in January and have probably created at least one a week ever since. Someone posted ones like these and called them zendalas - using a CD for the circle outline. I seem to have CDs lying around in convenient spots so I have been using them to start. I gather there are no rules - just see where the lines take you and what patterns evolve! Let me know if you try one!

Love the tones and the mounting paper. Very clever. I'm impressed with your ability to do eyes. I think those are so hard!
