First time participating in Paint Party Friday and I'm so excited!!! You can visit the other participants here, so pop over and check out what everyone's been up to!
Ok. You know I do not have the first idea about painting, so be kind please! This is a little doodle from my sketchbook, started in brown indian ink and then given a watercolor wash.
I did this yesterday with my two little boys - we often take our our art supplies and they paint while I work on whatever piece I have going at that time.
So how was it? I had fun, but I still hate the fact that I cannot get the precision with paints that I can with pencils and ink! I am just a huge fan of watercolor paintings, and wish I could get a clue how to use them properly...hmmmm...maybe a class is in order!
Wishing you all a wonderful Friday!

ah this is sweet as can be ~
I also sense painting lessons would be good for me!
I have taken two on line classes and they have used watercolor crayons and pencils, that is fun. Since you are use to drawing... then you take a wet brush to it.... still a bit scary. I love your bunnies and tree.
You're embarking on a journey that is so fun and I'm sure you're going to love it! I've been painting for a very long time and always feel as though I'm learning new things. Watercolours such as these you've used are the MOST difficult of all! Try acrylics, you can paint over any mistakes - I do!(Frequently!) :))
Julia,
I love all of the experimenting going on this week! It's so fun to see all of your different styles....
And this is so cute...Your tree is beautiful....watercolors are so hard to get used to ....but oh so fun, that's the best part....painting and experimenting! I have a great book that you would like to read, I always use it...
"Painting with watercolor, pen and ink" by Claudia Nice...I love this book.
This would make a cute Easter card!!!
have a great friday, my friend! xoxo
Just love this...perfect for EAster! :-)
This is a wonderful, whimsical painting. It is so fun and you did a great job with the watercolors. Classes are great fun, I learned quite a lot from mine. I think I might get that book that Heather suggested, sounds like a good one.
I love this Julia! Watercolors are wonderful medium and so different from like you said pens and colored pencils. I found that in my watercolor classes when I was in Art School I would paint my painting with the watercolors and then the next day I would go back with my fine pens and add the outlines that we (the ones who love detail so much) feel the need to add(O: I always wished I could just leave it alone and let the softness be but I could never help myself. Have a great weekend!!
It's so cute Julia! Just keep playing and experimenting. YouTube is great for tutorials if you don't want to take a full class.
A good exercise with watercolours is to experiment with wet paint on dry paper and wet paper - I love watching the paint dash across the page. Try splatting paint from your brush too. Also drizzle some salt over wet paint, leave it to dry then brush off and marvel over the wonderful texture! So much fun to be had in learning :)
It was so cool to chat at last! Keep saving for that trip to the UK!
I think it turned out great! I watch a lot of YouTube videos and some shows on our local PBS station to learn new techniques as well as pick up books from the library. I would love to take a class though.
I LOVE it Julia. It totally reminds me of the tree painting you did last year that I fell in love with that you dedicated to me. ADORE it. :) Isn't watercolours fun?
Hi Julia!
You did this for PPF? Yay!! But I don't see you on Mr. Linky? :( Please come back and link to your lovely piece.
I have those watercolours and have been using them for my "Mexican sketchbook". I really like them but precision I guess depends on the brush (and user). I'm getting a bit better with time.
What about watercolour pencils or crayons and then adding water with a paint brush? Have you tried that?
I think you did a fabulous job, this is utterly charming!
I don't know how I missed this - I love your bunny meadows... so much fun (and the fact that you were painting it with your boys - even better)!
Keep playing with the watercolors...they can take some time to get used to :)
xo
Kristin
p.s. I didn't see your link on the PPF site? (You can still add it)
